AI-Powered Veneer Handling for the Wood Industry
Introducing a state-of-the-art solution for the wood industry, delivering AI-powered factory automation that transforms mill operations by handling veneer more efficiently than traditional sheet feeders or manual labor.
Ensures Consistent Output
Improves Quality
Controls processes with Sophisticated AI
Reduces Labor Costs
Veneers exhibit significant diversity in form and quality—varying in shape, surface area, moisture content, and presenting defects like knots, splits, holes, and debris from production. These variations make them difficult to handle using traditional equipment or manual labor. That’s where AI-powered factory automation for the wood industry excels—adapting intelligently to these challenges with speed and precision.
AI-powered Factory Automation for Modern Mill Efficiency
Manual veneer handling slows production, risks product damage, and puts workers in harm’s way.
The RIOS Veneer Handler, powered by RIOS AI Agents, automates this delicate process with real-time precision—stacking, sorting, and feeding veneer sheets without compromise.
Engineered for the speed and variability of wood product manufacturing, this AI-powered factory automation system adapts on the fly, integrates seamlessly with your exising lines, and maintains consistent throughput across shifts
Unlock measurable gains in:
Product quality and consistency
Operator safety and ergonomics
Production speed and scalability
This is intelligent material handling—built for continuous uptime, smarter control, and the evolving demands of industrial manufacturing.
RIOS Agents™ Automate Decision-Making
As part of RIOS’ AI-powered factory automation for the wood industry, Veneer Handlers incorporate RIOS Agents™ to evaluate individual veneers and stacks based on characteristics like surface area, volume, mass, moisture, holes, knots, and splits. These intelligent systems also enable precise 3D spatial awareness when picking and placing veneers on moving conveyors and stacks.
How AI-Powered Factory Automation Transforms Veneer & Panel Handling
Discover how AI-powered factory automation for the wood industry is redefining veneer and panel handling. By combining machine intelligence with advanced robotics, the system adapts in real time to variations in material quality, positioning, and throughput—delivering precision, consistency, and efficiency beyond what traditional methods can achieve.
-
AI Sortation
Sorts veneer based on your specification. Automatically reject out of spec veneer more accurately and consistently than any other solution, including people. -
Detects Out of Spec Veneer
Detects broken corners, narrow spots, open defects and splits. -
Detects and Rejects Visible Debris
Automatically alerts when debris is detected to minimize stopped line recovery time.
-
Operates Anywhere Veneer Is Handled
Veneer Handler locations include green chain, dryer in-feed, dryer out-feed, full sheet and composed layup line automation points. -
Operates with Speed and Precision
Place veneer < 1/4" relative to AI vision or otherwise determined stationary or moving target(s) up to 20 times per minute. -
Increases Production Time
Using sophisticated AI, VP Handlers inspect individual veneer, stacks of veneer and provide historical performance information to predict and prevent issues that cause downtime.
AI-Powered Factory Automation and Sortation for the Wood Industry
As part of an AI-powered factory automation solution for the wood industry, the RIOS Agent™ inspects each veneer for knots, holes, and split defects before directing the Veneer Handler to place them in the appropriate stacks. Veneers meeting user-defined thresholds are accurately placed in the accepted stack, while those that fall short are routed to a rejection stack. The entire process is fully automated, driven by an AI model trained on unobtrusive video collected onsite—eliminating the need for human intervention.
